Our Team
Our Team is made up entirely of Volunteers. Everyone has their own unique role to play, but every decision taken is a team effort.
We also want to give a big shoutout to a large part of our team is the amazing and supportive PTA at Kayenje c/u, who ensure we keep our selection process fair and our mission in line with that of the wider Kayenje community.
And another big shoutout goes to our fabulous donors, without whom, we would never be able to run this project.

Shannon Young 🏴
Chairperson | Founder | Trustee
Shannon's role is to keep things running smoothly.
Shannon is in charge of the day-to-day operations, as well as jumping in to help out wherever needed. Having spent many years living in or making extended visits to Kayenje, Shannon is passionate about ensuring the locals there remain the key drivers, agents, and story-tellers in this project. Shannon strongly advocates against white-saviourism, working hard to try and address the harmful stereotypes of Uganda that are too often portrayed by other charities.
Shannon has a degree in Social Anthropology and is currently studying a Masters in Human Resource Management, after which she hopes to bring a positive change to the way Multi-National Corporations operate by encouraging a less western-centric approach to recruitment and workplace culture.

Nakawunde Josephine 🇺🇬
Overseas Coordinator | Founder
Josephine is our eyes and ears on the ground in Uganda.
Josephine is always there to support and advise our students throughout their studies and regularly checks in with them and their families to see how things are going. Josephine is currently a teacher at Kayenje c/u primary, but on top of this she is studying a masters in Education.
Josephine is a bundle of enthusiasm and kindness. She gives up so much of her time to make sure that this project runs smoothly, we truly couldn't run this project without her.

Natalie Northridge 🇬🇧
Treasurer | Trustee
Natalie keeps our books balanced.
Natalie is there to keep close tabs on our funding and ensure we are 100% transparent to our sponsors on where every penny of their donations go. She also ensures we always have enough in the bank to support our students from start to finish, making sure we don't take on more students than our funds can manage. Predicting funds is a near-impossible task when we rely so heavily on donations, so we're really glad to have Natalie on the team.
Natalie does this while also working for a Tech start-up in London, she has a Social Anthropology degree and a Law degree (basically, we think she might be superhuman).

Carolina Sousa E Sá 🇵🇹
PR and Outreach
Carolina's role is all about making friends.
As we enrol more students into our project we need to look at other ways of creating revenue without relying solely on public donations. The task of creating and maintaining mutually beneficial partnerships with other people and organisations falls to Carolina. Her role is truly vital to the growth of project muyembe, and with her experience working with other non-profits we couldn't think of anyone better suited to the task.
Carolina is from Portugal but studied Sport Policy, Management, and International Development at Edinburgh University and fell in love with Scotland. She now works in Glasgow for LEAP as a communications support assistant.

Alexandra Douglas 🏴
Social Media Manager | Trustee
Alex keeps you updated.
Alex's role is to make sure we keep our supporters in the loop and get our story across to more and more people.
By providing regular updates from Uganda and by spreading the word about our latest fundraisers, Alex plays a vital role in ensuring we have enough support to keep our project going.
Alex is currently a Business Management student, with aspirations to become a renowned CEO. On top of running our social media, Alex runs her own small business making some fantastic feminist t-shirts and is a fabulous make-up artist... In short, Alex is always grafting and her motivation and organisation inspires us all daily.

Cassie Kamper 🇺🇸
Head of Fundraising
Cassie is our fundraising guru.
Cassie creates a wide variety of fundraisers to help us continue our scholarships. Cassie is incredibly creative and always thinks outside the box, she's also the first to get her hands dirty and her heart pumping with daring sponsored adventures.
Cassie loves our fundraisers to be mutually beneficial if possible, helping our students in Uganda as well as improving the area we are fundraising in. When doing sponsored hikes, Cassie will collect litter on the way. Or when selling gift boxes, Cassie will personally match the sales and donate them as gifts to local charities.
Cassie is from the United States, and because of her, our fundraising efforts are able to reach all the way across the pond. She manages to do all of this in the very limited downtime she gets from her job as a deckhand on a yacht in Monaco.

Jane Young 🏴
Administrative Director | Co-opted Volunteer
Jane is our team mum!
Jane has been invested in Project Muyembe from day one and, due to her extensive experience working for various non-profits, she has been co-opted onto our committee to share her invaluable knowledge.
We rely on her to keep us in check in all aspects of well... everything. She makes sure the team are managing their roles and steps in if they need help.

Thomas Dos Santos 🇺🇬
Overseas Assistant
Thomas inspires our students.
Thomas is a Kayenje born and bred entrepreneur. After completing a college diploma in business, Thomas established a game station in Kayenje which has PC's, printers, Xbox's, TV's, desks with lamps, and a mobile phone charging station. This game station provides affordable entertainment and office/homework spaces for people in Kayenje many of whom don't otherwise have access to electricity. Thomas started this project with a second-hand TV and a donated Xbox.
Thomas re-invests some of the profits from his game station to help others in Kayenje. He also runs tree-planting projects and volunteers his time to help Josephine buy school supplies for our students, check-in with our students and spread the word to others in Kayenje about the work we do.
Want to see your name up here? We are currently looking for someone with an interest in editing to create videos from our GoPro footage for our social media channels. Just drop us a message if you're interested or would like more information.
